On January 6, 2011, I participated in "botanizing trip" to West Butte Borrego Mountain with Tom Chester, an amateur botanist who blogs on a Web site of his own at www.tchester.org.
We hiked all the way to the summit. Three of us returned by the same route. The rest followed the alternate route described in Jerry Schad's Afoot & Afield in San Diego County, and returned to the parking area much later.
