On May 12, 2012, I participated in one of several work parties for construction of a new alignment for Cold Spring Trail in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. I volunteered under the auspices of the San Diego Mountain Biking Association, although other organizations, such as REI and the California Parks Department, also participated.

When completed, the new Cold Spring Trail will be a mile or two longer than the old one, but it will be more scenic and less subject to erosion, and it will be open to mountain biking.

I have plotted the route of the new trail on a topographic map that also shows the locations of existing trails. Notice that the topo labels Cold Spring Trail as "Cold Stream Trail", a name that is now applied to the trail running along the east side of Highway C-79.
