Survey of trail to Guatay Mountain

[Notes on hike up Guatay Mountain with meetup.com Take a Hike group]

[We start from the Pine Creek Trailhead in Pine Valley about 9:10 AM]

[I survey in the GPS from the trailhead on the access road to the summit]

[waypoint 1 entrance to trail on access road]

waypoint 12 we go through a gap in a barbed-wire fence

[trail appears to be the remains of a road, there is a pipe running along
the road, mostly but not completely underground]

waypoint 16 left turn

[steep, badly eroded ascent]

waypoint 26 trail narrows

waypoint 33 trail starts to descend

[it descends and ascends several times before we reach the summit]

waypoint 40 we all take pictures [57537 to 57540]

waypoint 43 next local summit, and I take more pictures

waypoint 51 picture of I-8 bridge over Pine Creek Gorge

waypoint 77 at what we think is the summit, but we cannot find the benchmark,
time 10:49 AM distance 2.68 miles [it turned out not to be the summit]

waypoint 78 after wandering around, we return to a point on the trail and
continue toward the summit

waypoint 88 real summit, end of this part, 11:03 AM 2.96 miles

12:45 PM 5.94 miles, back at the parking area, end of trip
